Daedalus was born in Athens and was the great-grandson of Erechtheus, king of the city. He devoted himself to sculpture and architecture, he was very skilled in what he did; it is said that his statues seemed alive to the point of telling that they opened their eyes and moved. Daedalus is credited with the inventions of the ax, the saw, the drill, the step of the screw, the archipenzolo. He was the teacher of his nephew Talo, the son of his sister, whom he killed out of jealousy when Talo surpassed the teacher in his art. The Areopagus, the court, condemned him to perpetual exile; Daedalus rufugaro in Crete where he was welcomed kindly by King Minos who commissioned the Labyrinth to enclose the Minotaur. To Daedalus, Ariadne, the daughter of Minos, turned to know how to help Theseus to kill the Minotaur and get out of the Labyrinth, and as we know the advice of the thread succeeded in having Theseus triumph in the enterprise. When Minos learned that it was Daedalus who helped his daughter and Theseus, and not being able to take it out on his daughter who fled with the hero, he thought of punishing Daedalus, locking him with his son, Icarus, in the Labyrinth, which he himself had planned. The only way out of the Labyrinth was to escape by flying; ingenious as he was, Daedalus built two pairs of wings, one for himself and the other for his son. It was recommended with Icaro to always stay behind him during the flight, not to overdo it and above all to be careful not to get too close to the sun's rays because, the wings, attached to the shoulders with wax, could detach as the heat would melt the wax . As not mentioned, Icarus during the flight, feeling pleasure, moved away from his father and reached the rays of the sun that melted the wax and made him fall into the sea, where he died. Sad and desolate Daedalus, he landed in Campania at Cuma, where he built a temple to the god Apollo, delivering the wings he had invented to escape from the Labyrinth of Crete.
